I vote this one for the next movie club film

Last Night: Set in Toronto at an unknown date, Last Night tells the story of how a variety of intersecting characters spend their final evening on Earth. It seems the world is to end at midnight (Eastern Standard Time) as the result of a calamity that is not explained, but which has been expected for several months. There are several scenes of an ominously glowing sun, which gets progressively larger and brighter even into the night.

Some people in the film choose to spend their last evening alone, others with loved ones, others in prayer, others in public mayhem, and still others at raucous festivities.

Some people in the film choose to spend their last evening alone, others with loved ones, others in prayer, others in public mayhem, and still others at raucous festivities. The owner of a power company Duncan (David Cronenberg) spends the majority of his final day calling up every single one of his customers to reassure them that their heating gas will be kept on until the very end. Meanwhile, his wife Sandra (Sandra Oh) prepares to fulfill their suicide pact when she becomes stranded with a depressed widower Patrick (Don McKellar) preparing to die while listening to music and drinking wine on his roof, surrounded by mementoes of his recently deceased wife. The widower's best friend Craig (Callum Keith Rennie) participates in a nearly non-stop sex marathon as he attempts to fulfill every fantasy he has ever had, at one point awkwardly asking Patrick to join him. Sarah Polley appears as Patrick's sister Jennifer; their family chooses to have a final meal together although he leaves prematurely to seek his own finale. Jackie Burroughs makes an appearance as an apparently mentally disturbed woman who jogs around announcing how much time is left before the end. Arsinée Khanjian also appears as a mother on an abandoned streetcar (tram) who is paralyzed by despair.

Directed By Don Mckellar.

No worries if you can't all get hold of it. Feel free to pick another movie

Wow. Sounds like a great film. And it's got Geneviève Bujold, always a plus in my book.

I've checked Netflix, and it isn't available, even for download. But Amazon has a copy that I may be able to have by the 21st. Looking forward to it.

Hey, I just noticed that Mekka is on the schedule for November 21 with CONTROL. Is he okay with swapping? Mekka, you okay with that?

Either one works for me. I'm looking forward to seeing both.

Watched it an hour ago, hope it's not to early to make some comments. Smile

Quite the interesting movie really! At the beginning (With Patrick's family "christmas" party) the situation was so awkward I almost found it hard to watch, but luckily things turned a bit more normal (and amusing) later on. Some of the dialogue was outstanding, the "Quick! Say something to make me love you. It won't be hard." talk was just fantastic! Also very interesting how the whole "event explanation" is totally ignored - there is no uncertainty, everyone has simply accepted as fact that the end is night and that's that. Bizarre, but I think it worked wonderfully to tell the story. Some of the characters seemed a bit singleminded, the mother on the tram and Craig having to be coerced with great difficulty in borrowing out his car both seemed rather implausible to me.

I keep wondering why it's bright daylight when they all talk about midnight, though. Is it midnight in another timezone, and the whole world have adjusted their clocks to the upcoming event? Or perhaps the permanent zenith sun is an effect/cause of the apocalypse? The shots of the glaring sun and Patrick's comment about wishing for night at the very end seemed to indicate this somehow...

Yarr, im one week late as usual, but here goes.

I watched it Last Night Razz
Pretty much liked it from the start, or atleast after Sandra's car gets tipped over, carried off and placed verticaly.
What a wierd thing to do, and all the people that rush to, to tip the tram, lovely stuff. Dialogue is great and so are the
actors and their characters. Its fun to see what people could do a couple of hours before everything stops, that people
accept that everything will end, and there is really no doubt. Some perform their duties far beyond call of duty, tho
i did not see any law enforcers/medical people anywhere, tho i guess that would actually add to the problems as people
usually don't like authority figures, and prolly more so 1 hour before the end of the world Razz still i think some people would
try and keep control until the very end. But perhaps that was in another part of the city. Also that the camera began going
around and around just before everything ends and that they ended it with a kiss rather blowing their brains out. Tho some
prolly did, but not in this story.

As for the light/sun. I also think it would be due to people switching to a specific time or a countdown time rather than real time,
and as for the light swallowing up stuff in the end, and for the letters in the intro to be shown similar, is mostly just a great way
to start/end it. I don't know i EST makes 00:00 at daytime in this movie tho.

I also love the fact that nothing is explained in the movie, its all naturaly taking place.
