Star Trek (2009)
7/10
Its good, it has some Michael Bay moments that i loathed, some Polarbears and a freakin SPIDER!
(a nod to Kevin Smith?
)
Some major plotholes that can be justified with the alternative timeline thingy, and Kirk was the only character that
was not himself.. but other than that, its a solid Star Trek movie, maybe 2-3 hours too short, but it will live long and most
likely prosper into a sequel ^^
PS. grats on the new forums, looking good

Star Trek 2009
5/5
I was petrified that this would be awful and desecrate the history of Star Trek. Instead I loved it. A clever way to completely restart the franchise without demeaning the original work. I loved it. My only problem was the transporter beams. I really hated them.

Rocknrolla

They've all got the same actors in them & the same stories with a "cool" soundtrack.
Only watched 40 mins of this after paying for it from Sky box office - thankfully it looks like I've not been charged for it!!
Mr Ritchie - No no no no no!!!!!

Australia

It starts off as a classic comedy/adventure, i allmost peed my pants when Hugh Jackman emptied a barrel of water over himself
striking an uber pose while water ran down and washed away some soap, all while Nicole Kidman was wathcing. It was surreal for this
kind of movie, and very funny. After that it gradualy became a romance movie, then jumping back and foruth between romance, adventure
and drama.
Set in a time of war. Nice acting and story, good visuals, tho some cgi scenery are more cartoony than
real, its seems the whole movie is more set to the tone of a comicbook than RL, especialy for the surroundings, moods and coloring.

Star Trek
Just been to see it and thought it was brilliant. All the actors were excellent. Chris Pine was a lot better as Kirk than many reviews led me to believe. He had the right Shatner tone in places.
Karl Urban nailed it as McCoy. Pegg's accent was a bit hit and miss. Quinto as Spock was pretty good. Zoe Saldana is gorgeous and Chekov and Sulu had their moments to shine.
Would have liked to have seen more of Nero though - how did he lose part of his ear? There were teeth marks on his scalp.
The bit on the USS Kelvin was very well done and so sad.
Lots of action, very funny, looked great.
Recommended to fans of the series and those who didn't really like it

You might want to check out the prequel comic book, think it answers some of your questions, and imo is better than the film

Its called Star Trek Countdown.

Taken
7/10
Very satisfying Revenge movie, in somewhat the style of Payback and Ransom, a fathers who is a former spy aka. a Preventor, hears his daughter
get kidnapped over the phone and then tries to get her back in his own way.
Also has one of the coolest rants i have heard in a long time:
"I don't know who you are.
I don't know what you want.
If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money.
But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career.
Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it.
I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.
But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

I love this movie, Kevin Costner is awsome in this.
its a good psychological thriller, keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Re: What was the last film you watched?
Wednesday I rewatched Star trek and liked it even better the 2nd time.
Yesterday I saw a series of short's from the North West Film Archive. It was absolutely fascinating. They showed films of Manchester from the early 20th century. A lot of the buildings shown no longer exist so it was a bittersweet experience. It was shown at Cornerhouse. I will definitely be attending the next event. If anyone is interested in the history of film and/or the Northwest of England I suggest a look at their website. They have tons of footage viewable on it with a good search facility. I think I'll be spending far too much time on it in the near future.

Re: What was the last film you watched?
Just finished watching "Last House on the Left" It is brutal and quite disturbing with tension and gore and shocking scenes.
I give it a 3 out of 5, the music is strange for the type of film and the subject matter and it will make you feel tension and horror and I can imagine when it came out that audinces would have been shocked to their core.

Exactly what I expected from seeing The Da Vinci Code. A good adaptation of an average book. Typical Hollywood gloss and twists. Not at all a brain drain or left field offering but I enjoyed it. Maybe it was just a little too long. Always good to see Stellan Skarsgard. 4/5

Fast & Furious 2009
7/10
Surprisingly good and entertaining, never liked the other 3 but this one was nice, less
crap about cars and more story and action. Returning where the 4 key cast members from
the original movie.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
7/10
Too short, seemed there where alot of footage that they wanted to film but didnt have time or money.
The result is a great action movie that has timeline holes all over it.
There where also alot of cheesy dialogue that could have been spared, even tho it made it more comic'ish
where most is explained through dialogue, it didnt seem to fit.
That and some crappy CGI aside, the movie was entertaining, good action, and Jackman is truly wolverine.

Fanboys
6/10
Average comedy/roadtrip movie with lots of good cameos and quotes/nods to different movies.
The problem however is that there are about 10 billion other movies that is just like it, only
this one is star wars themed, if it hadnt been, it would get around 3/10 ^^
A good laugh but nothing more, it is.

Terminator Salvation
8/10
I have no idea why people bash this movie, its great, good acting, good action, the story is
atleast as good as any of the previous movies. Seeing at its a part of a trilogy (atleast it seems so),
this is a great start. And the Arnold scene is just awesome

Star Trek
meh. But oh how I love Simon Pegg. He stole every scene, even just toweling off his hair.
I would see it again for him. The rest was pretty much what you would expect. Being a die hard geek girl I had to see it; even though it looked lame. lol.
Only one review on Wolverine? I heard it was awful but am going to see it anyway. Peanut Gallery?

I do like Simon Pegg. Spaced was brilliant. I didn't think he was quite as good as I was hoping for in Star Trek. Maybe it was because I kept seeing Simon Pegg and not Scotty.
His new film Paul with Nick Frost does sound like it could be good. I also hope they get to work with Edgar Wright and finish off their Ice Cream and Armegeddon trilogy
