Introduce Yourself Empty Introduce Yourself

Post  Mekka Thu May 28, 2009 2:52 pm

I thought a thread where we can get to know each other a little better could be useful.

I'm Mary, 33, from Manchester in the UK.

I love cinema and I'm always looking to broaden my knowledge. I like a lot of European cinema including British. I also like a good blockbuster and 'small, character driven' films.

TV wise I'm a sucker for sci-fi.

Introduce Yourself Empty Re: Introduce Yourself

Post  Amy Laurel Thu May 28, 2009 5:06 pm

I am going to cheat and post my bio. It is so much less personal... JK I am just half asleep:

Amy Laurel finds her passion writing for teens. Her body of work includes a poetry collection "Smiley Bikini Death Poetry", a dramatic novel "The Trouble With Suicide", and a YA novel "The Anomalous Adventures of James and Max" (which has been adapted to the screen and is currently in pre-production).

When she's not writing, Amy fills the well by practicing her taewkondo, fencing, and downing as much Diet Coke as humanly possible. She is currently tackling her most recent screen project, The Haan Blade(currently in pre-production).

See? not so personal, but I do love my diet coke. :-) That is from writersuniversity.com so there was no need to mention there that I am also an actress... and super fun. They worked out the super fun on their own, I am giving you all a head start. Wink

Mary, I love it over there. Are you still out that way? I used to visit East Grinstead a lot. Mmm proper chips, squash (in anything) and mint sauce... I think those miss me the most.

I love to watch movies, but i don't go to the cinema's quite as often as i want to.

my favorite movie is: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
I pretty much like everything, as long as its not stupid (American Pie, epic movie and stupid stuff like that).

I also like reading, as long is not that big of a book.

Dan,

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. BRILLIANT! Even with the epic stare down at the end. I am going to have the whistling in my head all day now, lol!

What genre of books do you enjoy? I would love to recomend some non-heavy reading material!

I enjoy all kinds of books really, these are the books ive read so far:
Catcher in the rye
A Clockwork Orange
Lord of the flies
No Country for Old Men
The Road
Da Vinci Code
and i'm reading The Dark Tower part 1 right now.

so its a pretty wide variety of genres, as long as it keeps me wanting to turn that page.

You may enjoy Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, he is pretty funny.
The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams is a must, if you haven't read it. Laughing
Have you read To Kill A Mockingbird? Your list suggest to me that you have, but it is amazing.

I need to read Angels & Demons as well as The Davinci Code, have you read both?

You may also really like The Life of Pi by Yann Martel as well.

Amy - I'm still here. I see myself as never leaving Manchester. I've never been to Sussex though.

I also love to read. The older I get the more non-fiction I seem to read. If it's fiction it's usually crime fiction. Favourite crime authors are Donna Leon, Henning Mankell, CJ Sansom and Michael Connelly.

Post  Virgil Brigman Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:29 pm

Hi there, my name is Virgil Brigman, my real name though is Eamon, I'm 26 years of age and I come from Northern Ireland.

I found my way here thanks to Twitter, been a movie fan all my life, my favourite film of all time is The Godfather and I have a top ten list of movies that actually includes around thirty films, which is that way thanks to an over complicated system of ranking and balances.

In my spare time I like to write, or try to anyway, I watch too many movies, too much television, listen to too much music and read too many books.

Absolutly. Wink

It was one of the first movies I ever seen, kick started an affection for Jim Cameron movies, and is still one of my favourites to this day.

Totally agree. The Abyss is a brilliant film and it needs to be on Blu-Ray right now

There was a rumour it was in the works there last year, but sadly it turned out to be only that, a rumour.

It is such a perfect film though, sweeping, majestic, epic and with a wonderfully played relationship at the heart of it. I simply adore it.

Mr. James Random here. Big fan of movies and a graphic designer.
Some of my stuff has been featured on the Live for Films blog before
and I decided it was high time I start posting here.

As a treat, I made this fun typographical movie poster:
